Structural Engineering FAQs

The most-asked questions about our Structural Engineering services. Can’t find the answer? Reach out to us on our contact form.

What is a Structural Engineer?

A Structural Engineer’s expertise ensures that buildings and structures perform as intended based on their purpose—for instance, a dance floor must be stable enough to prevent excessive vibrations when people jump on it. Working closely with architects, builders, and other engineers, they play a crucial role in bringing safe and innovative designs to life.

Why are Structural Engineers essential?

Structural engineers play a vital role in designing and assessing the strength and stability of buildings and infrastructure. They ensure structures can safely withstand forces such as wind, weight, and earthquakes, preventing failures and protecting occupants. By analyzing load-bearing capacities and selecting appropriate materials, they reinforce every part of a structure—from its foundation to its roof—acting as the unseen framework that holds everything together.

Why should I hire a Structural Engineer?

A structural engineer provides expert guidance on construction and building projects for both residential and commercial properties. Their expertise is essential for any project that modifies a building’s structure or requires building control approval.

How much does a survey cost?

Typically our surveys start from £270 plus VAT but this would depend on the location and complexity of the project. We will always provide a quote before carrying out surveys or work in general.

Are you insured?

We hold the necessary Public and Employers Liability insurances as well as Professional indemnity insurance.

Can you provide this service anywhere?

Typically we can provide remote services anywhere in the country. However if site visits were required there may be some limitations. We would always advise on this when discussing your project.
