Our in house Chartered Structural Engineer is a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers with almost 40 years’ experience.
He has experience of many varied projects in that time from steelwork supporting the seating at Glyndebourne Opera House, to the Pilgrims Hospice in Margate. York Street redevelopment in Ramsgate to single storey classroom blocks in local primary schools plus many residential projects on buildings old and new. Work has been carried out on properties built from the 17th Century to current buildings. Design works have been undertaken in steel, masonry, timber and concrete on residential, commercial, educational, retail and ecclesiastical buildings.

Site Surveys
Carry out site surveys to discuss potential requirements and aid us in providing other services.

Produce drawings / plans for Construction and Guernsey Building Regulations.

Provide structural calculations to accompany drawings / plans for applications and sign-off.

Write reports to explain what was discovered during site surveys and what would be necessary to achieve necessary sign off.

Design of structural works for new build structures. Design of platforms or mezzanine floors within new and existing buildings.

Design of structural works for alterations to existing buildings including works to the existing building and any additions to the building.

Guernsey Building Control
We can provide structural engineering services in Guernsey for Categories 1, 2 and 3 of the Building Control submissions guideline.
Category 1
Category 1 classed as minor work of negligible risk with a low associated consequence.
- Minor alterations – e.g. formation of door openings etc.
- Minor works – e.g. simply supported beams, lintels over 2.4m, beam and block floors, roof trusses, eco joists.
- Category 1 work does not include premises used for ‘Assembly and Recreation’ or ‘Class 2 Residential’ i.e. Hotels, Care Homes etc.
Category 2
Category 2 classed as notable work of small risk with a medium associated consequence.
- Residential work up to 200m2 footprint and up to and including 3 stories in height – e.g. Reinforced concrete slabs, ground beams, piling, retaining walls, steel framed structures, roof structures, timber framed buildings.
- Industrial/agricultural buildings where less than 10 persons are likely to be employed – e.g. simple framed buildings, single storey, mezzanine floors.
- Office work up to 200m2 per storey up to a maximum of 2 storeys.
Category 3
Category 3 classed as substantial work of medium risk with a medium associated consequence.
- Residential work over 200m2 footprint or the number of storeys as a result of the work will equal or exceed four including basements – any work.
- Industrial/agricultural buildings – complex structures on more than one level, any building where more than 10 persons are likely to be employed.
- Office work up to 200m2 per storey up to a maximum of 3 storeys.
- Assembly and recreation and Class 2 Residential – traditional construction up to and including 3 storeys, including basements*.
*basement work is subject to discussion and one off professional indemnity insurances.
